My husband and I are building a timber framed house. By building, I mean we started with some trees and are handcrafting each one into pieces of our future home.

A proud landmark: The placement of our first post and beam. |
Warren fell in love with the timber frame style when he spent a summer in British Columbia helping to build a timber framed house. This style features large, exposed posts and beams held together with joinery and wooden pegs; no nails or brackets are used in the main frame of the house. One desirable aspect of this method of framing is that a beam can span across large distances allowing for a more open floor plan than a traditional stick frame house. It has a warm feel and really showcases the beauty of the wood.

I created this site to document the rest of what we casually refer to as "The Project" and reflect on the triumphs and misadventures we've had along the way. I do this as a creative exercise and so that in the future we can look back on this joyful and fulfilling time in our lives (and be glad that it's behind us!). If you want to follow us along the way we welcome your insight and support.
