Sneak Peak

We lost internet for the past week and a half or so, but things have been happening around here!

Next weekend is raising day.

RAISING DAY!

Raising day is something we've been working towards for years, so it will be a huge milestone in our lives.

In the meanwhile, we have been tying up loose ends the past couple weeks. Warren got all the raising-day equipment reserved, the tongue-and-groove for the ceiling/sub-floor delivered, and a couple of specialty router bits ordered. We finalized the design for the hand-railings in the house after the router bits arrived (there are some very specific regulations for hand-rails in this county! ...and everything to do with stairs). In addition, Warren performed his civic duty attending jury duty while maintaining a heavy workload at his day job. I've been chugging along on the staircase, and Warren has been chugging along on the last of the drawings. Bonus: we split and stacked all of this year's firewood!

Most of exciting of all: bent assembly is in full swing, and the stairs from the basement to the main floor are installed!

My favorite arts and crafts project I've ever done!
Final touches getting the basement stairs together.

Shiny.

Hammering pegs. So satisfying to see the joinery sucked together.

I am a little sad that I won't be able to be in the thick of it next weekend for raising day; at 8.5 months pregnant it is frowned upon to be lifting beams around like normal. Precariously carrying joists along skinny beams with a ten foot drop to put them into place is unfortunately out of the question. Thankfully I was able to participate in that part last summer when we installed the main deck. I will still get to decide what goes where. I'll get to be designated photographer. And I will also simply be able to just enjoy the show!

One bent...

...two bents...

...three bents...

FOUR!
Now fingers crossed that the weather cooperates next weekend...
